General description
Product Source: E. coli
Granulocyte Colony-Stimulating Factor (GCSF) is a pleiotropic cytokine best known for its specific effects on the proliferation, differentiation, and activation of hematopoietic cells of the neutrophilic granulocyte lineage. It is produced mainly by monocytes and macrophages upon activation by endotoxin, TNFα and IFNγ. Other cell types including fibroblasts endothelial cells, astrocytes and bone marrow stromal cells can also secrete GCSF after LPS, IL1 or TNFα activation. In addition, various carcinoma cell lines and myeloblastic leukemia cells can express GCSF constitutively. G-CSF is being used clinically to facilitate hematopoietic recovery after bone marrow transplantation. Human and murine G-CSF are cross-species reactive. Recombinant human G-CSF is an 18.7 kDa protein consisting of 174 amino acid residues.
